My Hair & Scalp Journey: Living with Scalp Psoriasis & Hair Thinning

For years, my hair was something I rarely thought about.

Then everything changed.

More than five years ago, I started dealing with what I thought was stubborn dandruff. I tried countless over-the-counter shampoos hoping to get it under control, but nothing seemed to work. The flakes kept coming back, my scalp was constantly irritated, and I felt frustrated every time I looked in the mirror.

Eventually, I scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist and received a diagnosis that finally made sense: scalp psoriasis.

Scalp psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin condition that causes raised, red, scaly patches on the scalp. Symptoms range from mild flaking and dandruff-like scaling to thick, silvery plaques that can extend beyond the hairline. Itching, burning, and temporary hair shedding are common, and flare-ups are often triggered by stress, illness, certain medications, or skin injury. While there’s no cure, treatments, including medicated shampoos, topical corticosteroids, vitamin D analogues, scalp oils, and light therapy, can control symptoms and reduce inflammation. Early diagnosis and a consistent treatment plan help manage discomfort, minimize flares, and protect scalp health.

At first, I felt relieved to have an answer. I was prescribed medicated shampoos and topical treatments, and while some worked for a while, I found myself constantly switching products as my scalp seemed to adapt to them over time.

What followed was years of trial and error.

Some products helped. Others didn't.

Some routines made a difference. Others left me feeling discouraged.

Then came another challenge many women can relate to: hair thinning.

As I've gotten older, I've become much more intentional about caring for my hair, my scalp, and my overall health. I've researched ingredients, tested products, explored supplements, changed habits, and learned a lot along the way.

That's why I decided to start this blog.

Not because I have all the answers.

But because I know I'm not alone.

If you've ever struggled with scalp issues, hair loss, thinning hair, breakage, or simply finding products that actually work, I hope you'll find encouragement here.

In future posts, I'll be sharing:

• My scalp psoriasis journey and what has helped me most
• Hair care products I've personally used and loved
• Styling products and accessories that work for my hair type
• Hair supplements I've tried for thinning hair
• Amazon finds and beauty favorites worth sharing
• Tips, routines, and lessons I've learned along the way

I'll also be connecting many of these recommendations to my Pinterest page, where I share product reviews, beauty favorites, and curated finds that have made a difference for me.

My goal is simple:

To create a space that's honest, helpful, and relatable.

Thank you for being here and following along on this journey.

We're just getting started.
